This is a story about how a young couple blindly gets into what is termed as one chance marriage and, as a result of their carelessness, they mess up everything.
With too many divorce stories flying around in the social media these days, the once honourable institution of marriage is being gradually turned into a playground for absurdities by many young couples.
SCENE OPENS TO COMMUNITY COUNSELING CENTER - SATURDAY AFTERNOON
ADEWALE, a single Accountant in his early 30s, is volunteering at a counseling office set up by the Local Government Chairman to help estranged couples in the city settle their differences.
Adewale is sitting at a desk, filling out paperwork when AMANDA, a beautiful Fashion Designer in her late 20s walks in. The two of them make eye contact and both feel a spark immediately.
AMANDA
(walks to him) Hi, good afternoon sir. I'm here to volunteer for the weekend.
ADEWALE
(receives her warmly) That's great my dear. Welcome aboard. I'm Adewale.
AMANDA
(smiling) My name is Amanda Apama, but you can simply call me Amanda.
ADEWALE
(offers her a seat) It's nice to have you here, Amanda. Thanks for coming.
They spend the evening attending to couples with different issues in their marriage. They also spend some free time talking and getting to know each other. As they finish up for the night, Adewale and Amanda walk out together and exchange phone contacts.
ADEWALE
(speaks in admiration) I had a great time today, all thanks to your support, Amanda…. Can I at least take you out for lunch next weekend?
AMANDA
(a bit excited) Well Mr. Adewale, I think I'm free next weekend. So it's fine. I would love to hang out with you.
FADE OUT.
SCENE OPENS TO A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT - DAY
Adewale and Amanda are on their first date, laughing and enjoying each other's company.
ADEWALE
(fixes his eyes on her) Waoh, Amanda, I can't believe it's only been a week since we met at the community counseling center. It feels like we've known each other for years.
AMANDA
(smiling) Slow down mister lover boy. But I know what you mean sha. I'm kind of happy that I can feel comfortable around you.
ADEWALE
(nods) I feel the same way too. And I love the feeling.
The new lovers hold hands and gaze into each other's eyes with excitements.
FADE OUT.
SCENE OPENS TO THE INTERIOR OF ADEWALE'S MODERATE HOME - DAY
Adewale and Amanda are cuddled up on the couch, talking about things they both want to hear. They are also kissing and touching each other like they were already a couple.
AMANDA
(stops the kissing) Ade my dear, can I speak freely?
ADEWALE
(nods) Sure thing my love, speak up. Whatever it is, I can handle it.
AMANDA
(a bit shy) The thing is, Ade, I really love you dear. I can't really explain it, but I just can't imagine my life without you. You mean a lot to me.
ADEWALE
(smiles broadly) I know it's been just like three months since we met. But the truth is that I feel the same way, just like you...
Adewale pauses and sips his drink.
ADEWALE
(calmly) Left to me, baby, I think we should take the next step and get married…. Or what do you think?
Amanda's eyes light up with excitement.
AMANDA
(super excited) Oh my God! Are you serious, Ade? I would really love to be your wife. I've actually been thinking about the possibility of spending the rest of my life with you.
The love birds smile and kiss passionately.
FADE OUT.
