This is a story about how a young couple blindly gets into what is termed as one chance marriage and, as a result of their carelessness, they mess up everything.
With too many divorce stories flying around in the social media these days, the once honourable institution of marriage is being gradually turned into a playground for absurdities by many young couples.
SCENE OPENS TO ADEWALE AND AMANDA'S DINING AREA - DAY
A cozy dining room with a table set for breakfast. ADEWALE, a caring husband in his mid 30s, sits across from AMANDA, his wife, who appears a bit distant.
ADEWALE
(concerned) You seem much better this morning, my love. But you sure rattled me last night with those tears and talks of wanting to tell me something and asking if I could forgive you. I thought you had cheated on me with another man... I don’t know what I would have done if that was the case, because I can’t imagine another man on top of my dear wife. No, I can’t.
AMANDA
(sighs) I'm sorry, Ade. Like I later told you last night, I was simply disappointed in myself after I saw a rough bank slip showing that I had forgotten over N200,000 in my old bank account. Meanwhile, you were struggling to find just N20,000 to balance the payment for our house rent last week. Why should I have such a big amount in my account and my husband had to take a loan of N20,000 from those online loan sharks to balance our house rent?
ADEWALE
Baby, it wasn't that serious. Please don't pull my legs with such a stunt next time. You almost gave me a heart attack, causing my imagination to run wild.
SCENE SHOWS ADEWALE AND AMANDA'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
Adewale and Amanda are cuddling on the couch. Her phone rings, displaying "Mr. Donald" on the screen. She hesitates to answer.
ADEWALE
(encouraging) Amanda, maybe you should pick it up. It might be important.
Amanda reluctantly answers the call.
AMANDA
(nervously) Hello... Mr. Donald. Yes, this is Amanda… Ok. Please tell Mrs. Koko your manager to send me an email so I can submit the full proposal on Monday.
SCENE SHOWS INTERIOR OF MR. DONALD'S OFFICE - DAY
Mr. Donald, an influential building contractor in his early 50s, sits behind his desk, looking smug.
MR. DONALD
(on the phone) Amanda, who's Mrs. Koko? My dear, I just can't stop thinking about our private time. So, I want you to meet me at the Bunking Hotel today at 4pm. We have to continue from where we left off.
SCENE SHOWS ADEWALE AND AMANDA'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
Amanda ends the call, her face shows a mix of confusion and worry. She puts off her phone quietly.
SCENE OPENS TO INTERIOR OF MR. DONALD'S OFFICE - DAY
Amanda storms into Mr. Donald's office, anger evident on her face.
AMANDA
(angry) How dare you call me while I'm with my husband, are you trying to break my marriage or what?
MR. DONALD
(smug) Amanda, are you raising your voice on me? But you agreed to be my side chic, and I'm taking care of you handsomely with my hard-earned money. So it's only fair that you satisfy my urge whenever I want you.
Amanda is taken aback by Mr. Donald's audacity but keeps her composure.
SCENE SHOWS INTERIOR OF HOTEL ROOM - SUNSET
Amanda reluctantly sits beside Mr. Donald on the bed in the same hotel where he waited at the weekend. After intimacy, he hands her an envelope of money.
MR. DONALD
(smirking) Here's N50,000 for your poor performance tonight. Return to being my sweet baby when next we see and I'll make it a Hundred Thousand again.
Amanda forces a smile, putting the envelope in her hand bag.
SCENE SHOWS INTERIOR OF LIVING ROOM - SUNSET
Adewale arrives home from work, hungry and tired. He looks around, expecting that Amanda will serve him dinner, but his wife is nowhere to be found and there's no food to eat.
ADEWALE
(talking to himself) Amanda? Where is she? There's no food prepared.
Adewale takes out his phone and dials Amanda's number. She answers.
AMANDA
(breathless) I'm sorry, Ade. I went to submit a quotation to a client. I'll get food on my way home.
Adewale's frustration grows, though he tries to conceal it.
FADE OUT.
SCENE OPENS TO AMANDA AND ADEWALE'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
Adewale sits on the couch, engrossed in watching television. Amanda enters the room, looking nervous.
AMANDA
(sounding casual) Ade dear, I just got a call. It's from my good friend, Penny. She's back in Nigeria, just landed in Lagos. She wants me to get something from her quickly before she heads to her state.
Adewale looks up from the television, suspicion evident in his eyes.
ADEWALE
(skeptical) The same Penny? Alright, greet her for me. But make sure you don't stay long.
AMANDA
(avoiding eye contact) Sure dear, I will be back before long. I have some work to do at home.
Adewale's concern deepens as he watches Amanda's uneasy demeanor.
SCENE SHOWS LOBBY OF KOBOKO HOTEL - DAY
Amanda walks nervously through the lavish hotel lobby, glancing around. She spots her university days boyfriend, AUSTIN, sitting at a table in the corner.
AMANDA
(slightly anxious) Hey Austino, it's been so long. I can't believe you're back.
AUSTIN
(charmingly) Look at you Amanda, all fresh and fine. Looks like we have a lot of catching up to do.
AMANDA
But I can't stay long o. After you told me on the phone that you're back in Nigeria and waiting for me at Koboko Hotel, I had to lie to my husband that I want to quickly see my girlfriend Penny.
AUSTIN
(smiles) Whatever you say, my dear. Give me a hug first before we go inside. I've really missed you.
They share an extended embrace, and Amanda's uneasiness melts away.
The hotel room is dimly lit, creating an intimate atmosphere. Amanda and Austin sit close together on the bed, engaged in conversation.
AUSTIN
(reminiscing) Remember when we used to spend hours doing naughty stuff in my room?
AMANDA
(sincerely) Those were beautiful times. I've missed you, Austin. I hope you brought a lot of goodies for me sha?
AUSTIN
Of course, I've got a lot of lovely gifts for you… especially those stuff that I love seeing on you.
He winks at her and she smiles. Their conversation get more passionate, he takes her hands, draws her close to himself and things quickly get wild...
