COMEDY: Broken Men and Women -- Part 2

This is a hilarious comic series about the exploits of a young man, known as Young, who was sacked by his immediate boss at the factory where he works for sleeping on duty. And now, he wants to be rich by any means.

His ambition, without a requisite educational degree, usually puts him at cross purposes with his neighbours, employers and every other person he tries to get a contract from even as he tries his hands on all kinds of businesses, just to achieve his ambition.

How far will Young go to achieve his ambitious ambition?

SCENE OPENS TO IYA CHUKWUDI'S STALL - SUNSET

Young and Lamba are standing at Iya Chukwudi's food stall. They look sad and concerned.

YOUNG
Iya mi, you see how everything go abi? Wetin those Omo-Onile boys do us no good at all. Man pikin just weak like dodo since morning.

LAMBA
Thank you for your support, Iya Chukwudi. And don't worry, we go try raise money and pay for your Noodles and Eggs wey those thugs destroy for inside our joint.

IYA CHUKWUDI
My people, no wahala. God no go shame us. Make una no give up o. I know say one day, everything go better for the two of una. Make una find something chop ehn… this bad experience no be the end of the world.

Voice Over Narration
Meanwhile, in the same quiet street, a tale of romance, deception and unexpected outcomes unfold.

SCENE SHOWS STREET CORNER - DAY

Londoner, a middle-aged man who was recently deported from the UK, is seen driving a flashy Toyota car, trying to impress. He approaches Sandra, a single lady.

LONDONER 
Heloo, baby girl. You look take away like someone I can take to mama. Can we hangout? I just came back to Nigeria from London…

SANDRA
(smiling) Londoner, abi? You sure say you get money? Oya make we go enjoy ourselves small, then we can get down at my place. You know?

SCENE SHOWS INTERIOR OF PAPA BOLA'S BEER PARLOR

Londoner takes Sandra to Papa Bola's Beer Parlor. They sit at a table, enjoying some pepper soup, drinks and talking.

SANDRA
My dear Londoner, Sandra no dey like too much grammar o. Na money for hand, back for ground be my style. Money dey?

LONDONER
Babes abi you dey whyne me? I be big boy for London o. Money no be problem at all. But I hope you're ready to give me those good styles in bed?

SCENE SHOWS SANDRA'S ROOM - NIGHT

Sandra and Londoner are having an argument in hush tones, post intimacy after he gives her only One Kay. She confronts him.

SANDRA
Mister man, keep your voice down… Abi you dey craze, Londoner! You dey deceive me! So, you no get better money for pocket and you busy dey turn me different styles for my own bed?

LONDONER
(panicking) Sandra baby… Please, no vex. See ehn, I can explain...

SANDA 
You say wetin? Explain kii you there.

FADE OUT.


SCENE OPENS TO A STREET CORNER - DAY

Young and Lamba are considering a new plan to overcome their financial struggles. They decide to start trading on female clothes and shoes.

YOUNG
Lamba, see ehn, wetin don happen, don happen. Man gat's to move on. We need to think of another business. Me I believe say no be only Noodles and Eggs fast food joint fit give us money for this Lagos.

LAMBA
Bros na true you talk. That Omo-Onile saga was a baptism of fire for us, but we go keep trying until we go dey ok.

YOUNG
Na real baptism of fire, my guy. In fact, we go need some baptism of water to calm everything down.

LAMBA
Ehn ehn bros, make we reason about ladies clothes and shoes na. You know say babes too like to wear different clothes and shoes all the time. We can buy in bulk and sample them on the road without building any structure that will be demolished again.

YOUNG
(super excited) Lamba, the lamba master! You have done it again. That business go make sense die. Chics these days like shakara well well, so the business suppose move for that T Junction.

SCENE SHOWS YOUNG AND LAMBA AT THEIR NEW BUSINESS SPACE - DAY

Young and Lamba throw a tarpaulin on the floor, set up a rack and display their goods by a busy road. Not long after, the friends start enjoying some patronage from young ladies.

LAMBA
Sister, that gown looks so gorgeous on you. Just as if we brought it because of you.

CUSTOMER 1
I see am say e fit me well. But I hope say it's not too expensive sha?

LAMBA
No o, e no cost. That one is just Two Kay.

YOUNG
I know say that one is quite affordable for a big girl like you.

CUSTOMER 1
Affordable for who? Abeg na One Kay I go pay o.

YOUNG
Babe check wetin you dey price well nau. Na confirm turkey material be this o.

CUSTOMER 1
Oya take One Five, na wetin I get be that.

LAMBA
Guy, collect the money from her, make we just use am to make her our customer.

CUSTOMER 2
Oga, I like this black shoe. Abeg make I see the second leg.

LAMBA
Na the second leg be this, my sister. This shoe na high grade, e go last well well.

CUSTOMER 2
Sweet mouth… Please how much is it?

LAMBA
Madam it's Three Kay o, but just pay Two Five make I package am for you.

CUSTOMER 2
For wetin nau? Second hand shoe! Me na One Two I go fit pay.

YOUNG
Sister, look the leg well nau, you go see say e worth Five Kay sef.

CUSTOMER 2
See you, instead of you to support fine girl like me, na your brother you dey support. Anyway, just take. Na the amount I go pay last be that.

Voice Over Narration
Lamba collects the money from her, counts it, packages the shoes in a bag and hands it to her. She walks away with her bag, cat walking.

FADE OUT.


SCENE OPENS TO YOUNG AND LAMBA DRINKING AT A SPOT - DAY

The friends are relieved that their new business is picking up gradually and making some profits.

YOUNG
My guy, see ehn, once we finish selling this third batch of clothes and shoes, and recover our money and profit, we have to rent a space from that Omo-Onile leader and build a mini-boutique. I like as fine girls dey patronize us these days.

LAMBA
That's not a bad idea. But first, let's focus on making enough sales to recover our money and hope the profits will be substantial like the last batch. Do you remember that it's all our available cash we invested in this batch?

Voice Over Narration
While Young and Lamba were busy chatting over bottles of drink and small chops at the spot not far from their business space, it started raining outside unknown to them.

YOUNG
Wait o, no be rain sound I dey here so?

LAMBA
What!? This rain will destroy our goods o. Hurry... let's go, let's go.

Voice Over Narration 
Young and Lamba leave their drinks and rush into the rain back to the space where they sample their goods. But by the time they get there, the rain has become heavy and damaged their goods.

SCENE SHOWS YOUNG AND LAMBA SALVAGING THEIR GOODS - DAY

As the rain pours down, Young and Lamba stand amidst the damaged goods, feeling defeated.

YOUNG
Guy, carry that bag first. See as water don enter and full inside the shoes… Which kin yeye rain be this wey no even give person signal? 

LAMBA
(frustrated) Oh, not again! Wetin we go do now? We don lose everything again.

YOUNG
(staying positive) No give up, Lamba. We go find another way. This one wey happen so ehn, na baptism of water.
